So I had Amazon replace the card believing it to be faulty, but the replacement card also will not recognize any partition on drives beyond the first 128gb.I haven't bothered to see if it will work with NTFS partitions on my WinXP machine, as that's not what I bought the card for. (I partitioned the drives into four 128gb partitions to stay under the maximum that Win98 can handle)At first I thought it might be the drives, but I tested them with a known good (non-RAID) controller and they worked fine with all four partitions showing up on both drives. Be advised of this issue if you want to upgrade an older machine. I purchased this card to get around the 128gb limit on the BIOS of an older PC running Win98SE so it could use a pair of 500gb HDs in a mirrored RAID configuration for storing and playing home movies. (that's all we use the older PC for) Unfortunately, it would seem that the card does not support LBA drives running FAT32 partitions because it will not recognize any partitions on the drives beyond the first 128gb.
Also, I do not use the RAID function at all so I can't speak for it. That program is not functioning correctly with this controller and will corrupt files. I use it in multiple operating systems (Windows XP, 2000 and 98). In additon, DO NOT use a program called PDQI.exe to back up partitions and files with it. I now use other backup programs and they work fine. All work fine on 160 GIG drive. My only problem was to copy the XP and 2000 driver from the CD to a Floppy and install it using the F8 command during startup.
Unfortunately for me, the problem was in the motherboard. THe product worked fine and arrived on time.
Booted up computer.XP recognized it and asked for the drivers.Drivers installed and it worked fine.I have 2 500 gig WDs slaves hooked to it and they are working fine.My Master drive is a sata.I had 2 ATA IDE drives from my old system that I wanted to add to my new computer. I'm not sure about the problems others here had.I plugged the card in a pci slot.
Great product for a person on a budget. It works flawlessly. I've used this product in two machines now and it works great for setting up small office servers. I have one running on an XP Pro machine and using it for a Web and FTP server.
